Artist Len Bentham
Happy Holidays founder and designer, Len Bentham, creates and produces one-of-a-kind candy containers, toys, limited edition ornaments and party decor items. He has worked as an artist and designer for over 25 years.
Prior to the holiday related work that Len now does, he was using basketry and non-loom weaving techniques to produce sculptural forms. He received a Canada Council Explorations Grant to pursue this area and two of his pieces appeared in the International Miniature Textile Show in London, England and toured Europe and North America for two years. One of the pieces appeared in "American Craft" magazine.
Len has always loved holiday toys and decorations. After seeing Margaret Schiffer's book "Holiday Toys and Decorations" he realized that making holiday sculptures and toys was what he wanted to do.
His work has appeared in "Early American Home Christmas" magazine in an article titled "The Year's Best Santas". The former Canadian Craft Museum displayed his work in their Christmas show and for sale in their gallery shop.
His creations begin with a general design in mind and the characters or pieces evolve as he works from crude drawings and roughed in color schemes. Available materials often decide the final outcome. Sometimes an entire personality develops from one collectable item.
