Little Black Box - Mementos of Love
The idea for this box came from several sources, the famous or infamous little black book, the group of love letters that are tied into a parcel with the romantic pink silk ribbon, and the beautifully elaborate chocolate boxes of the Victorian era.
After the little black book is no longer needed here is the “The Little Black Box” to carefully keep those “Mementos of Love” safe. The black box has four black wooden feet. It stands 3 ¼” high from the base of the feet to the top edge of the box. The box is 6 ¾” long and 5 3/8” wide.
On the top of the box is a hand-cast, hand-painted composition heart of my own design. The heart is trimmed in pale blue chenille and is lined in pink hand dyed silk. The small pink heart on the front of the yellow heart is outlined in green chenille and a spray of vintage turquoise flower pips accents the top of the pink heart.
The heart rests on flocked vintage grass paper. Around the base and under the heart are vintage feathers, a hand made bird’s nest with eggs in it, a cluster of vintage berries, a stem of vintage rose buds and with one open rose, erica moss and cotton batting mushrooms. Inside the heart is a 1920’s crepe paper napkin.
A black velvet ribbon runs under the oval of grass and down to the bottom edge of each end of the box.
The inside of the box is lined with the same pink hand dyed silk. Each of the panels of silk is individually padded and the mounted into the box.
Around the top edge of the box is antique burgundy ruffled trim. One only
