Happy Father's Day!

I have spent hours trying to find a picture of my dad and for the life of me don't know where to find one.

If my wife was here, she is in Toronto visiting our new grandchild, she would point me in the right direction.

So instead here are three vintage Father's Day cards. Times have changed, not that many men smoke any more!

Happy Father's Day

Well today is Fathers Day. Here is a little look back at some items that were given to "Father" or "Dad" or "Pops" or "Old Man" (as I sometimes get called) on Fathers Day. I have been refered to the affectionate term of "Old man" by our middle child, the youngest son since his early teens. I still love him anyway.

This set of cards from the 1940s or 50s show us Dad likes to smoke.

He reads the newspaper while he smokes.

He loves outdoor sports such as fishing while he smokes. The times have certainly changed.

This embossed brass plaque looks to be from the 1920s, but don't quote me on that.

This cup and saucer was made in Japan. The word Father is highlighted in gold. The saucer is 7 1/2" wide. The cup is 3 1/2 " high and 4" wide. That is for one serious coffee drinker. Starbucks would love him.

This last picture I had to remove from its frame in order to scan it. By modern standards it is a little corny, but it really does show us what a "Father", "Dad", "Pops" or "Old Man" needs to be to his kids. We can only try. Happy Fathers Day. Did you notice that there are no ties. I do have some old ties but totally forgot to include them.
